What Is Botox?
Botox® (onabotulinumtoxinA) is a purified neurotoxin used in cosmetic medicine to temporarily reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles — those lines caused by repeated facial movements such as frowning, squinting, or raising your eyebrows.
How Botox Works
When injected in small, controlled doses into targeted facial muscles, Botox works by blocking the nerve signals that tell a muscle to contract. This temporary muscle relaxation softens the overlying skin, reducing the look of fine lines. Over time (typically 3–6 months), the effect gradually wears off, and repeat treatment may be needed to maintain results.
What Botox Can Treat
- Glabellar lines (the “11s” between eyebrows)
- Horizontal forehead lines
- Crow’s feet (lines at the outer corners of the eyes)
- Bunny lines (on the sides of the nose)
- Chin dimpling or “orange peel” texture
- Neck bands (platysmal bands)
- Subtle lip lines (depending on your goals)
- Mild to moderate asymmetries due to overactive muscles
At Dreamland Health & Wellness, your provider will also evaluate facial structure, skin quality, and balance to customize your treatment plan, blending aesthetic goals with overall wellness.
FAQ
FAQs
Answers to your frequently asked questions.
Does the injection hurt?
Most patients describe the discomfort as minimal — like a quick pinch. We can apply a topical numbing cream or cold compress beforehand to minimize any sensation.
When will I see results, and how long do they last?
You may begin to notice softening of lines within 3 to 5 days, with full effect in about 10 to 14 days. Results typically last between 3 and 6 months, depending on metabolism, lifestyle, and dosage.
Are there side effects?
Side effects are usually mild and temporary, including slight bruising, swelling, redness, or minor headache. More serious side effects are rare. Your provider will review all risks and contraindications with you.
Can Botox be combined with other treatments?
Yes. Many of our patients pair Botox with dermal fillers, skin rejuvenation treatments, or skincare regimens for a more comprehensive refresh. At Dreamland, we’ll help you design a treatment plan that fits your goals.
